The Good Samaritan Law in Colorado protects anyone who helps during an overdose, whether trained or not. This law grants immunity from criminal prosecution or arrest when acting in accordance with the law. Keep scrolling to learn more.

PROTECTIONS

THE LAW PROTECTS
PEOPLE WHO:

Report an overdose to law enforcement or 911.

Remain at the scene of the overdose until emergency help arrives.

EXCEPTION

THE LAW DOES NOT PROTECT PEOPLE WHO:

Have an active warrant, are manufacturing drugs, or possess large quantities of illegal drugs.

WHEN CALLING 911

Tell the operator where you are and your phone number, in case the line disconnects.

Alert the operator that a medical event is occurring , the individual is unresponsive, their breathing has slowed or ceased, and provide the exact location immediately.

Note: If naloxone was administered and the person is still unresponsive, inform the dispatcher this.

Stay on the line and continue administering first aid to the person who has overdosed.
